Solutions for treating short teeth

Many people are affected by the dental condition of short teeth. Bondi Dental can help identify if the problem exists and, if so, treat the ailment.

Short or only looking short?

Just because a tooth appears short it does not mean that the tooth necessarily is short. For this reason it is vital that our dentist determine between a tooth that really is short compared with a tooth that only appears to be short in length.

Even though by appearance a tooth may seem short it may actually be of full size alas its looks short due to problems such as excess gum tissue or an unbalance teeth aesthetic.

Gum modification

If our dentist determines that the tooth required a gum modification to remedy the problem for perceptions sake a gum lift might be an appropriate cause of action. Some may know this procedure as a gum reconstruction. Gingivectomy or flap surgery bay fix excess gum tissue present overlapping areas of tooth.

Tooth veneer

If your tooth is in reality short and not just a perception then porcelain veneers may be possible solution. A ceramic front would be fitted to your tooth or teeth.  Another of their possible functions of veneers therefore is to lengthen short teeth. If your teeth are too short, and lifting of gums is not a viable option, consider veneers to give you the appearance of normal-length teeth. A cosmetic dentist will buff away a bit of your teeth to make room for the veneers, cast a mold based on your buffed teeth, send this mould  to Dentist Bondi’s Sydney lab for veneer moulding. From there we cement the veneers to your teeth. With veneers, you can not only improve the length of your teeth but the shade and translucency, too.

Note that typically, dentists will recommend a combination of treatments to help you achieve the best smile.

Signs and Treatment for Tooth Erosion

Tooth erosion is something that is very common, but yet it is often ignored.  It is a serious issue that needs the attention of our dental doctor Bondi.  Our Bondi dentist can treat the erosion and fix the damage it caused. Therefore, it is essential that you make an appointment at the first signs of erosion.

What is Tooth Erosion?

Tooth erosion happens when teeth are worn down.  An acidic substance wears away at the enamel of the teeth, thus causing erosion. When this happens, the dentin of the teeth is exposed, which can then lead to sensitivity in the teeth, along with other issues.

Tooth erosion is becoming increasingly common in children due to their consumption of sports drinks.  People with acid reflux can also have erosion, as can bulimics.  No matter what the cause of erosion, you need to make an appointment with our dental doctor Bondi so the problem can be treated.

Symptoms of Erosion

When someone suffers from tooth erosion, they will likely have a smooth surface on their teeth.  The smooth surface is where the enamel eroded away.
There are also physical symptoms people will feel. Most common is the sensitivity to hot and cold.  People that suffer from erosion will likely be incredibly sensitive to hot and cold and that can lead to a great deal of discomfort.

The reason they feel the sensitivity has to do with the exposure of dentin.  Dentin has nerves, and when the dentin is exposed, the nerves react.  That can lead to a great deal of pain.

Treatment of Erosion

Erosion treatment consists of several different steps.  First you will need a good cleaning from your dentist.  Then, our Bondi dentist will go over the causes of erosion so you can learn how to avoid further damage.

Sweets and sodas often cause dental erosion, so you want to limit their intake.  Replace sodas with milk, as milk is much better for the teeth and leaps fight against erosion.

If bulimia is the cause of the erosion, it is recommended the patient seeks treatment for that problem.  They will not be able to completely cure the erosion until the bulimia is cured.

Additional Treatments

We will lily also give you a fluoride treatment to use at home.  The fluoride treatment will strengthen your teeth and fight against the erosion.  In addition, you can drink tap water, as it has fluoride in it.

In some cases, we will need to use bonding agents on your teeth.  When erosion occurs to the point that the dentin is exposed, a bonding agent will protect your teeth.  This will help with sensitivity as well.

Crowns are other option. Crowns will strengthen the teeth and also make them look great.  They will help with the aesthetics and the feel of the teeth, which is why they are often a great choice when tooth erosion is present.

Erosion is a serious issue, and you should visit the dentist at the first sings.  Our Bondi dentist can treat the erosion and help your teeth look and feel great.
