“A broken tooth should be treated immediately”
Teeth are strong and normally do not break. If however you have a broken or fractured tooth, it may be due to various reasons; some of which could be underlying undetected dental problems, in which case it is important that you visit a dentist and have the tooth and all underlying problems treated before the damage becomes more extensive.
Restore Broken Teeth
Broken teeth are caused by a number of reasons.

- Biting on hard objects such as shell fish, bones and nuts
- Accidents
- Night grinding
- Loss of or imbalance occlusion/bite
- Tooth structure weakened by root canal therapy
- Faulty dental restorations
- Amalgam fillings
- Tooth decay
Restorative dental services at Bondi Dental

Bondi Dental offers the following treatments to restore broken teeth:
- Dental crowns
- Dental bridges
- Composite restorations
- Dental veneers
- Dental implants
For minor breakage, composite restoration is the best option. Composite is a tooth coloured material which is strong and versatile, and can actually resemble the natural colour of the teeth. Composite restoration is a much faster and more economic method of restoring broken teeth, however, for extremely severe cases, dental crowns, bridges or veneers may be the option.
To restore a broken tooth, accurate and precise diagnosis is of vital importance. Our restorative dentist, Dr. Andrew Sih is able to identify the degree of breakage and whether the nerve of the tooth is affected by the breakage, and provide proper root canal treatment before any restoration work is done. A root canal treated tooth will have to be capped, or crowned at a later stage as the tooth is significantly weakened.
This is why all small cavities should be treated before the problem becomes too extensive and expensive to restore.
Broken Front Teeth Restoration

Broken front teeth can be restored with tooth coloured material called composite. This procedure requires not only technical competence, but also a good sense of aesthetics. Dr. Andrew Sih has the ‘know how’ on using various composite colours with different hue, value, intensity and translucency to create the most natural and pleasing effect.
Dr. Andrew Sih is also able to ‘vision’ the original shape of the teeth by looking at the patient’s oral tissue structures, facial features and shapes and sizes of the adjacent teeth, and ‘create’ the original function and natural look of the front teeth.
This procedure normally takes two to three hours to complete. This procedure will give the results which are both functional and cosmetically satisfactory. For severely broken front teeth, composite restorations can only serve as a temporary remedy, and patients may require veneers or crowns for a more satisfactory and permanent results.
