Lost Crowns or Fillings

You never know when a dental problem will arise and for this reason Bondi Dental offers 24 hour emergency dental care.  When you find yourself facing a lost filling or cavity after regular dental hours, call the Bondi dentist and have the pain alleviated and the problem fixed.

One of the most common dental procedures is the filling of a cavity.  Simply stated, the hole that is created is filled with bonding material to save the tooth from further decay.  Many times, the bonding that is in place will loosen and chip away from the tooth.  Most of the time when this happens, you will feel extreme pain as the nerve pulp is exposed, initiating the need for emergency dental care.

When a lost filling or crown becomes an emergency

Most of the time, when you lose a filling or crown it is not an emergency procedure.  However, when the loss exposes the root pulp of the tooth to the natural elements you will feel intense pain that will need to be taken care of immediately.  When you are feeling this pain, you need to contact the Bondi Dental Emergency Clinic to have the problem fixed.

What to do until you can see an emergency dentist

There are many home remedies that can help to stop the pain until you can get to a dentist and have the problem fixed.  You may want to place a little clove oil on a cotton swab and place it on the area.  Clove is a natural pain reliever and can stop some of the pain.

If the filling has dislodged from the tooth, place a bonding agent on the tooth.  You can buy dental cement directly on the surface of the tooth which will act like a temporary filling until you can get to Bondi Dental.

If you have lost a crown, see if you can replace it on the tooth.  Clean the tooth thoroughly and clean the inside of the crown.  Rinse your mouth with warm salt water or antiseptic mouthwash to clean the area.  Coat the inside of the crown with dental cement which you can buy over the counter at most stores, as this will help the crown to adhere to the tooth until you can see the Bondi dentist.  If you cannot find dental cement, use denture adhesive or petroleum jelly on the inside of the crown.

How Bondi Dental Will Fix the Problem Tooth

If it is a filling that you are dealing with, in most cases your dentist will examine the tooth to see what caused the filling to break away.  If it is additional decay that caused the problem, the tooth will be cleaned thoroughly and a new filling will be put in place.  If there is damage to the nerve pulp of the tooth, a root canal may be done and a crown placed on the tooth.

If it is a crown that you have lost, the dentist will examine the tooth for decay, clean the tooth and see if the crown can be replaced.  If the nerve root is still intact and damaged, a root canal will be performed prior to replacing the crown.

If you are in pain or feel as if you might have a dental issue, contact us today.  Our Bondi 24 hours dental clinic is always available to serve you.
