There are some dental emergencies that should not wait until morning, many of which are so painful that such waiting would not prove viable anyway.  If you have an abscessed tooth for example, you need to call our 24 hour Bondi dentist and have the situation remedied and taken care of immediately.  Abscessed teeth are uncomfortable and dangerous, and thus you should seek medical attention right away.  Your dentist can start to treat the abscess and help you get rid of the pain you feel.

Draining the abscess

Treatment for an abscessed tooth starts with draining the abscess although is assessing any underlying problems an X-ray will usually also be taken. Our 24 hour dental clinic has many different options when it comes to draining and treating an abscess.  We sometimes make a very small incision in your gums and actually drain the abscess that way, this sounds severe but is actually painless and actually proves a relief to any pain.  Another option may be root canal.  Lastly, our Bondi Beach dentist might consider tooth extraction.  He will work to save your tooth at all times, but in some cases, the tooth may have to be removed.  When that is the case, our dentist will give you options to replace the tooth if necessary.
If your abscess is drained, you will be put on antibiotics to fight the infection, as well as pain medication so you will be comfortable.  You need to make sure you take your antibiotics through the entire course because you do not want to end up with another infection.  In order to heal in full, you have to fight the chance of infection.

Restoring your smile

Then, it will be time to fix the damage your abscess created.  If you got a root canal to rid yourself of the abscess, you can get a crown so your tooth will appear normal.  With a crown, there will not be any visible signs of a problem.
If the tooth was extracted, you can get an implant in its place.  You will need to wait until the wound  has healed, and then you can get a dental implant so your mouth will be as good as new.  Our Bondi Beach dentist will be able to fuse the implant to your jawbone where it will stay permanently.
With all of the cosmetic procedures available, you can end up with a beautiful smile after your abscess is treated.  Understand that our Bondi Beach dentist can restore your teeth to perfection and will work with you to make sure you are pleased with your smile.

Prevent future abscesses and infections

Once you have been treated for an abscess, you want to make sure you avoid getting another in the future.  The best way to do that is with good oral care.  Take care of your teeth at home and keep appointments at your Bondi Beach dentist twice a year.  These appointments will allow the dentist to keep track of your teeth and make sure you do not have any more infections.
